Life: Company Visits

In addition to taking classes, our students also get a chance to learn about business in China by going to different companies.

A couple of weeks ago we went to the Shanghai VW factory/headquarters. Overall, it was less than spectacular. It was a short tour, and we did not get to hear a lot about the business side.

After that we went to the Singapore International School in Shanghai. I personally found this to be quite interesting. They accept students from all different nationalities, and have a strong emphasis on bilingual education. They have incredible facilities (including a golf course), and the students seem to be getting a good eduaction. It is quite expensive, but more affordable than other international schools in the area.

Today we went to the Shanghai Da Sha (上海大厦). It is a 5 star hotel located near the famous 外白渡桥 (wai bai du qiao) bridge. It is nice, but I don’t think it would meet the 5-star standards in Singapore.

After the hotel tour, we went over to the aforementioned bridge. This was a great time to see the bridge because they are going to close it to pedestrian traffic in two days. As a result, there were tons of people visiting today, and some of my students were interviewed by a local TV crew.

Tomorrow we are going to the Bao Steel Company.
